Help? Please?

I know a few of you who are reading (I'm pretty sure there are only a few TOTAL that even read, LOL) have had IUIs. After the laparoscopy, given nothing goes wrong or needs fixing, we have the choice of Clo.mid or Clo.mid and IUI. What can I expect as far as the procedure for the IUI? How about costs out of pocket? Anything else I should expect?

My surgery is gonna be pretty pricey. Not so much for me (well, yeah, a little) but for the insurance company. The doctor alone charges a total of $2350 just to do the surgery and that doesn't include hospital fees, anethesia fees, and related bloodwork. Hopefully though, I only have to pay my deductible which is $750 and they can bill me for that. It's another Dr's bill I do not want but hopefully it's for a good cause. The best part? My insurance covers up to $10,000 for infertility which includes IUIs and IVF. Wow.

So, any ideas? Suggestions? Advice? Thank you in advance. :)

I did Clomid challenge +IUI & had about $1400 out of pocket total- not including the clomid which I think was around $20. Insurance covered nothing for it - that was the grand total & it took me a few months just to pay that off... but worth it! I went in for baseline bloodwork & then a couple of blood draw w/ the wand to monitor folly growth.
Oh- I forgot the trigger shot which I got there & paid $50 for- you can get it elsewhere & bring it & save a few bucks that way. Then the next day bring in the sample & wait while it's washed & then back we went. The hubs was there for the whole thing which actually took a lot longer than usual I think- something about my twisty windy cervix (tmi) and after that just a take a pregnancy test in 2 weeks & call us if there's a line.
Be prepared to fit in a ton of u/s in a short amount of time- I think that is what tipped off my boss something was up. I tried to get as many in before 8 am as possible- but it is a lot to schedule. You need to be flexible & try to relax at the same time- tough I know!
I did acupuncture at the same time too- and the herbs she prescribed (after research, lol!)

let me know if you have any other questions- you can always e-mail me anytime jenn-e-fur at hot.mail
even if it's just to vent. I am keeping you in my thoughts hon!

I never responded to clomid so I don't know about that and IUI but when I did injectibles and IUI I think on average I had to pay less than $200 per cycle including my extra ultrasounds (it would take me much longer to respond to any meds). If I were in your situation I would do a couple of IUI and if that doesn't work out move to IVF. I hope your surgery goes well!

So it's been a month since you posted. so what happened? Did you have your laproscopy? What happened?

Here is my take on IUIs. If you have sperm issues or issues of your body attacking sperm or you have low/none good cervical mucus, the IUI doesn't give that much a bigger percentage of a chance at pregnancy. And since your insurance only covers up to $10k for iuis/ivf, I'd save the most for a possible ivf. $10k doesn't cover much, so I wouldn't want you to exhaust your money through too many IUIs. But then again, I wouldn't go right to IVF either. I would do a few IUIs so you can see what your body is doing. Having all the u/s will show your doctor just what they need to see if you are ovulating "right". Had I not had one, I would have never known I needed hcg trigger to ovulate. This way, you'll see your foll(ies) and you'll see it all go right, along with the lining you haave at ovulation time. Now, they don't always tell you these things, but ASK! Ask them that they are showing ovulation for sure. Ask what your lining is like. Ask ask ask ask ask. Knowledge ~is~ power.

If you have the choice of injectibles along with IUI, that's a whole nother ballgame. It's a lot of cash for those meds and if you already make 1-2 good follies with clomid, that's the best situation. No reason to make more that that with injectibles when not doing IVF. The only reason I did femara over clomid was of my CM, which was shit. But it was shit without it too - femera just made it better because it makes your uterus estrogen hungry. In fact, they put me on femara for my FET for that exact reason.

So update us honey!
